Longtime high school football coach Scott Criner announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2025 season, marking the end of a 45-year coaching career. Raised in a prolific coaching family, Criner was influenced by his father, Herb (Boise State), and his uncles: Jim (Boise State head coach), Walt (NJCAA champion at Snow College), and Bob (California high school basketball).
Coach Criner spent 24 years with many different coaching jobs in college football, including at Utah State, Boise State under Pokey Allen, University of the Pacific, University of Cincinnati, Fresno State, and Northern Arizona. He also coached a year in the original XFL with the Las Vegas Outlaws.
Since 2000 Coach Criner worked as a head coach and offensive coordinator at the high school level, where he was a part of 4 different Idaho State Championship teams and reached the state semifinals 10 times. He is widely known across the state for his high-performing offenses and a commitment to his players.
After the 2025 season, he announced his retirement.
